Overview
Biochemical / physiological behavior.
Lactose is a disaccharide formed by the condensation of a galactose and a glucose molecule. Lactose is the main sugar in milk of most species, usually in the range of 2-8%. Lactase hydrolyzes lactose into its monosaccharides. Glucose released by lactase is a major source of energy in newborns.
