Application.
Trypan blue has been used: intracellular activity assay was stained with 0.2% trypan blue solution to determine the number of living and necrotic cells. Dye plant tissue to observe cell death.
Biochemical / physiological behavior.
Trypan blue dye can distinguish dead cells from living cells according to their ability to absorb or remove dyes. A viable cell is thought to have a complete cell membrane, so excluding this dye, the cytoplasm looks clear. On the other hand, dead cells show blue cytoplasm.
