General description.

Application.
Streptomycin is used to study the mechanism of streptomycin resistance and is often used in conjunction with penicillin and other drugs to inhibit bacterial contamination in cell culture applications. It is suggested that 25-50 μ g / mL should be used in molecular biology, 100 mg / L in cell culture and 50 mg / L in embryo culture.

Biochemical / physiological behavior.
Mode of action: inhibition of prokaryotic protein synthesis. Binding to the S12 protein of the 30s ribosomal subunit prevents the transition from the initial complex to the chain extension ribosome, causing miscoding or inhibiting initiation. Mode of resistance: mutations in rpsL (the S12 ribosomal protein gene) prevent streptomycin from binding to ribosomes. Aminoglycoside phosphotransferases can also inactivate them. Antibacterial spectrum: gram-negative bacteria and gram-positive bacteria.

Warning.
The solution was stored at 2-8 °C for up to one month and for a long time at-20 °C. At 37 °C, the solution was stable for three days.

Points for attention in preparation.
The storage solution should be prepared directly in the vial with aseptic water with a concentration of 20-25mg / mL.
