General description.
Polyethylene glycol (PEG) is a hydrophilic polymer. It can be synthesized by anionic ring-opening polymerization of ethylene oxide to produce different molecular weights and end groups. When cross-linked into a network, PEG can have high water content and form a "hydrogel". Polyethylene glycol (PEG) does not induce immune response, so it is an ideal material for biological application.
