Biochemical / physiological behavior.
Coomassie brilliant Blue G250 is used to dye proteins in polyacrylamide gel. It is also a purinergic receptor antagonist of P2X7. The receptor is mainly involved in the process of neuroinflammation. In human SOD1 G93A amyotrophic lateral sclerosis mice, administration of brilliant blue G improved weight loss. However, it does not affect the survival or motor coordination of transgenic mice.

Application.
Coomassie brilliant blue G250 has been used to determine the concentration of urinary protein. It can be used to detect protein bands after SDS-PAGE (sodium dodecyl sulfate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis). Used as a purinergic receptor (P2X7R) antagonist.
