Application.
In general microbiological studies, ampicillin is used to select bacterial cells with specific drug resistance. It has been used to study antibiotic resistance and permeability limitation, synergism among multiple antibiotics, and some blood infections, and has been used to develop PCR tests to detect drug resistance genes in cerebrospinal fluid.
General description.
Ampicillin sodium is an easy-to-use solution that can be used to select bacterial cells with specific resistance.
Biochemical / physiological behavior.
Ampicillin sodium is a β-lactam antibiotic whose amino side chain is connected to penicillin structure. Penicillin derivatives that inhibit bacterial cell wall synthesis (peptidoglycan cross-linking) by inactivating transpeptidase on the inner surface of bacterial cell membrane. It has bactericidal effect only on the growing Escherichia coli. Resistance mode: the β-lactam ring of ampicillin was cut by β-lactamase. Antibacterial spectrum: gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria.
Other considerations.
Seal and store in a dry and ventilated place. Open containers must be carefully re-sealed and kept upright to prevent leakage.
