Application.
Vancomycin from Streptomyces orientalis is used to treat severe or acute infections caused by susceptible strains of methicillin-resistant (β-lactam-resistant) staphylococci. It is used to block bacterial cell wall biosynthesis at the level of peptidoglycan biosynthesis. It is widely used in cancer patients. Overuse of vancomycin has been studied and recommended guidelines have been obtained.
Biochemical / physiological behavior.
Vancomycin is a glycopeptide antibiotic that can block bacterial cell wall biosynthesis at the level of peptidoglycan biosynthesis. It inhibits the partial insertion of D-alanyl-D-alanine at the terminal of NAM/NAG- peptide. It can be effectively used for gram-positive bacteria. Vancomycin can change the permeability of bacterial cell membrane and RNA synthesis.
Glycopeptide antibiotic action mode: used to block bacterial cell wall biosynthesis at the peptidoglycan biosynthesis level by inhibiting the insertion of the terminal D-alanyl-D-alanine portion of the NAM/NAG- peptide. Antibacterial spectrum: gram-positive bacteria
