General description.
Sodium bicarbonate is widely used as a physiological buffer in cell culture. The pKa of bicarbonate <-> carbonic acid is 6.4. the pKs of bicarbonate <-> carbonate is 10.3. Sodium bicarbonate has two pKa,6.4 and 10.3. It is widely used as a physiological buffer in vitro.
Application.
Sodium bicarbonate has been used as in vitro ripening, A component of bovine embryo culture system during fertilization and culture (IVMFC) as a component of the mixture of Dulbecco's modified Eagle's medium and Ham's nutrient mixture Fmur121purl in bovine microvascular endothelial cell culture as ITS (insulin transferrin and selenite) used in the isolation of dopamine neurons from human embryonic stem cells. As a component in the cell culture medium for human embryonic kidney cells and as a component in the Beltsville thawing solution used to dilute semen.
