Application.
Sodium butyrate is the sodium salt form of butyric acid. It is a natural compound known to inhibit the growth of tumor cells, and its biological activity in human breast cancer cell line (MCF7) has been studied. Sodium butyrate may be an effective drug for the treatment of human spinal muscular atrophy. It can reduce the release of Ca2 + stored in cells. It can inhibit histone deacetylase (HDAC). Apoptosis is induced in several cell lines.
