General description.
L-rhamnose is one of the components of plant cell wall polysaccharides, rhamnuronic acid I and rhamuronic acid. It also exists in the bacterial cell wall and is the main antigenic determinant leading to pathogenicity. L-rhamnose can not be absorbed by the human body, but it can be fermented by intestinal flora. Supplementation of L-rhamnose can slow down gastric emptying. L-rhamnose oligosaccharide can combine with immunogen and can be used in cancer immunotherapy. Intake of L-rhamnose can increase the level of serum propionate.
