General description.
MES is one of the most widely used biological buffers-Good's buffers. MES is an amphoteric ion N-substituted aminosulfonic acid with morpholine ring. This ingredient does not form complexes with most of the metals used in environmental and biological research. It is soluble in water but extremely insoluble in lipids, so it cannot pass through the membrane.
Application.
MES hydrate has been used in MS (Murashige and Skoog) medium for the growth of Arabidopsis seedlings. It has been added to the cytoskeleton buffer in immunofluorescence studies.
Points for attention in preparation.
The buffer solution using MES can be prepared by titrating to the required pH value by NaOH. The reserve solution of MES and MES sodium salt can also be mixed to achieve the desired pH. At present, a standard mixing table for the preparation of designated pH buffers using reserve solutions has been published. It is not recommended to use MES; under the pH 7.4 buffer condition. Other buffers should be considered.

Other considerations.
Solubility: MES is soluble in water and forms a transparent colorless solution at 0.5m or more. This product was tested at 20g/80mL (water) or 1.3m concentration. The pH value of the solution should be between 2.5 and 5, depending on the actual concentration. The saturated solution at 0 °C is about 0.65m.
