General description.
MOPS is a commonly used amphoteric ion buffer in biochemistry and molecular biology. Its structure is similar to 2-(N-morpholinyl) ethanesulfonic acid (MES) (M29284). Both of them belong to Good's buffer.
Application.
MOPS is considered non-toxic to cultured cell lines and provides high solution transparency for use in cell culture media and biopharmaceutical buffer formulations (upstream and downstream). MOPS-based buffers can be used in biological processes for the purification of antibodies, peptides, proteins and blood components. It is suitable for physiologically related buffers, such as mammalian cell culture, RNA denaturing agarose gel electrophoresis, discontinuous polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis and so on.
