Inosine is an effective stimulating factor of nerve growth factor (NGF), which can induce nerve process growth. The increase of inosine level after brain injury is related to the increase of expression proteins related to axonal regeneration and growth. Mice treated with inosine showed an enhanced recovery of fine motor control after ischemic brain injury. Inosine can be used to study the editing process of A to I RNA.
