Biochemical / physiological behavior.
Metheme is oxidized heme, which is an iron-containing auxiliary group of a series of proteins. Free heme is released from hemoglobin after hemolysis, which has a pro-inflammatory effect and contributes to the formation of iron-derived reactive oxygen species. Free heme levels can be up-regulated under various pathological conditions and can lead to a variety of inflammatory conditions, including vascular diseases, renal failure and immune-mediated diseases. Metheme can be used to study the expression and inhibition of heme oxygenase 1 (HO-1) and the activity of HO-1. Hemagglutinin is a necessary "X factor" for the growth of Haemophilus influenzae.
Application.
Metheme is used in the following applications: study strains and growth conditions for short-term colony assay (medium consisting of heme and other components) Cell transfection it can be used to analyze the inhibitory effect of MMV (antimalarial drug) malaria box compounds on β-hemoglobin formation.
