Biochemical / physiological behavior.
L-glutamine is a basic amino acid and a key component of culture medium as the main source of energy for cell culture. L-glutamine dry powder and frozen solution are very stable. However, L-glutamine degrades relatively quickly in liquid medium or reserve solution. It is usually necessary to use L-glutamine supplement medium before use to obtain the best cell performance.
Glutamine provides nitrogen, carbon and reduction equivalents for cell growth and division during cell culture. L-glutamate helps to insert NH4+ into biomolecules.
Application.
L-glutamine has been used as one of the components in the preparation of calcium-free mCZB medium. It is also used as a supplement in the culture medium of rat hippocampal sections.
