Biochemical / physiological behavior.
Natural fluorescent anthracycline antibiotics, anticancer drugs. Doxorubicin is the substrate of MRP1 cloned from DOX-resistant lung cancer cell line. Its fluorescence properties were used to measure drug efflux pump activity and solved the important problems of intracellular localization of various multidrug resistance proteins and the role of subcellular organelles (Golgi apparatus and lysosomes) in drug chelation and their effects on drug resistance phenotypes.
