Biochemical / physiological behavior.
Dmur2-deoxyglucose (2-deoxyglucose) is a glucose analogue that inhibits glycolysis by its effect on hexokinase (the rate-limiting step of glycolysis). It is phosphorylated to 2-DG-P by hexokinase and cannot be further metabolized by glucose phosphate isomerase. This leads to the accumulation of 2-DG-P in cells and the consumption of ATP. In vitro, 2-deoxyglucose induced autophagy, increased ROS production and activated AMPK.
Application.
Dmurl 2-deoxyglucose (2-DG) is used in the study of glucose receptors to induce and study the process of reverse regulatory response (CRR). 2-deoxy-D-glucose is used to develop anticancer strategies involving radiosensitization and oxidative stress in radiation and chemotherapy.
