Cefotaxime inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin binding protein (PBPs), and PBP inhibits the final peptide transfer step of peptidoglycan synthesis in bacterial cell wall. As a result, the bacteria were cleaved by autolysin in the cell wall.
Cefotaxime is a cephalosporin antibiotic, which is active against both Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria. In addition, cefotaxime blocks the division of organelles / plastids in cyanobacteria and lower plants, such as photosynthetic organelles in cyanobacteria and chloroplasts in bryophytes.
