Application.
Colistin sulfate is used to permeate bacterial cell membranes and to study mannose-resistant hemagglutination and antibiotic resistance in some organisms such as Acinetobacter baumannii A. baumannii. It has been used to study nephrotoxicity in rats, MIC value, time killing kinetics and post-antibiotic effect (PAE) against Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
Biochemical / physiological behavior.
Mechanism of action: it binds to the lipids on the plasma membrane of Gram-negative bacteria and destroys the integrity of the cell wall. Antibacterial spectrum: gram-negative bacteria. It is thought that the renal reabsorption of colistin sulfate may involve organic cation transporters and peptide transporters, and this process is sensitive to pH.
