Biochemical / physiological behavior.
Colchicine is a microtubule polymerization inhibitor that can block chromosome segregation during meiosis. Therefore, colchicine is used to induce polyploid (tetraploid) in plant cells.
Points for attention in preparation.
Colchicine has been used as an inhibitor of tubulin polymerization in bone marrow-derived macrophages to inhibit axonal growth of cultured human nerve cells in vitro as a microtubule destabilizer to induce peripheral neuropathy induced by pluripotent stem cell-derived neurons (iPSC neurons).
