Overview
Application.
BCA has been used to monitor the level of reducing sugar, thus helping to detect chitinase; it has also been used to determine the amount of cellulose at the reducing end (μ mol/g cellulose); it has been used to determine protein concentration.
Biochemical / physiological behavior.
Diquinolinecarboxylic acid was used to determine protein concentration. Proteins reduce copper ions to cuprous ions, and diquinoline formic acid (BCA) reacts with cuprous ions (Cu +) to form purple complexes. The amount of Cu + is related to the concentration of protein.
