Application.
Adenosine triphosphate (ATP) is the core component of energy storage and metabolism in the body. ATP is used in many cellular processes, such as respiration, biosynthesis, movement and cell division. ATP is the substrate of many kinases involved in cellular signal transduction and adenylate cyclase that produces the second messenger cAMP. ATP provides metabolic energy to drive metabolic pumps. ATP is a coenzyme in many enzymatic reactions.
Biochemical / physiological behavior.
P2 purinergic agonist; increased activity of Ca2+--activated K + channel; substrate of ATP--dependent enzyme system
